Bio
George-Alex Nagle is an award-winning Sydney-based filmmaker whose work currently spans short film, music video, and video art installation.
As a graduate the College of Fine Arts and the Australian Film Television and Radio School, his directorial work moves between experimental pieces and thematic dramas which largely explore the beauty and ugliness of human proximity.
His first experimental short Real-Time won the ‘Boundary Breaking Short’ jury prize at the Sydney Underground Film Festival. The following year his COFA Honours work Blood : 1&2, an experimental 16mm film piece and multichannel video installation was selected for the ‘Hatched: National Graduate Show’ at the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts. Later, his AFTRS short drama Embrace premiered at Sydney Film Festival before going on to multiple festivals and showcases around the world, while Inanimate would win ‘Best Film’ at the Canberra International Short Film Festival.
Most recently, his acclaimed mid-length drama Mate became the first Australian film ever to be awarded the prestigious Oscar/BAFTA qualifying ‘International Grand Prix’ at the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival 2022. Mate would also be nominated for both the Australian Directors’ Guild award and the Screen Producers Australia award and be acquired by Arte TV (Europe) and SBS (Australia).
He is currently lecturing in the ‘Master of Film and Screen Arts’ programme at Sydney College of the Arts (USYD) whilst developing long-form projects.
